If there's one person who can make office uniforms seem like a style statement, it's Sonam Kapoor. While her big glamour moments have always been on the red carpet, including her iconic Cannes Film Festival looks, her recent Vogue India cover shoot, the more recent archival Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla outfit at the NMACC and the Maharani-esque Dior look, she never fails to bring it. Not for nothing, Sonam and Rhea Kapoor are the most formidable muse-and-stylist duo in Bollywood. Their styling choices hit the spot every time, thanks to their impeccable taste in fashion and a forte in visual storytelling that perfectly captures the mood and the purpose of the occasion.

Sonam was recently spotted looking sharp as ever at India’s first-ever Apple store launch in Mumbai’s BKC on April 17, 2023. At first glance, her look seems like a tasteful, geek-chic ensemble. But there is more to this look than meets the eye. Sonam’s intentional choice of Japanese designer Junya Watanabe is a nod to her constant need to experiment with everyday fashion. For the Apple store launch in Mumbai, Sonam opted for a grey plaid mini dress from Junya Watanabe’s Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection which had a double-breasted blazer silhouette, draped cape sleeves, notched lapels and scuffed hems. She wore the mini dress as a blazer over a black corset and a matching Junya Watanabe plaid skirt with pleat detailing and a unique waist. The look was equally sophisticated and innovative.

The grey of the outfit was juxtaposed with a sprightly yellow bag from the Louis Vuitton collaboration with artist Yayoi Kusama. For her accessories, Kapoor journeyed home and wore mismatched silver earrings and rings from Indian jewellery brands Amrapali Jewels and Gehana Jewellers. Kapoor went for a soft makeup look that accentuated her cheekbones and pulled back her hair in a knotted bun. And finally, she completed the look with an Apple watch with a white strap, the perfect finishing accessory given the occasion. Sonam Kapoor once again demonstrated how sartorial styling can be used as a mode of visual storytelling to capture the mood and purpose of the occasion and proved her styling genius, and here's how you can recreate her latest look for yourself.
