The Cook Islands language belongs to the same language family as New Zealand Māori. The dialects are: 

  • Cook Islands Māori
  • Pukapuka
  • Palmerston Island


When is Cook Islands Language Week?

Cook Islands Language Week in 2020 is from Sunday 2 August to Saturday 8 August.

Cook Islands Language Week is a celebration of the language and culture of the Cook Islands. 

Cook Islands Language Week explores the values of diversity and respect. It encourages Kiwis to share and experience another culture. It is a chance for New Zealanders to learn a new set of beliefs and cultural practices.
