Scientists Say The 'Zombie Mushroom' in "The Last of Us" Series Is Really Exist

Scientists Say The 'Zombie Mushroom' in The fungus then grows and controls the ant's behavior.

Trstdly - 'The Last of Us' is an HBO series that tells a story about the zombie outbreak. A mushroom caused this outbreak and infected humans to be zombies. According to scientists, this 'zombie mushroom' exists in real life.

In a documentary series called Planet Earth in 2006, a scientist found a mushroom like this. It was called Ophiocordyceps and was found by a British scientist named David Attenborough. The fungus is believed to change human behavior.

In the video, the Cordyceps fungus infects the ant's head. The fungus then grows and controls the ant's behavior.

"Like something out of science fiction, Cordyceps comes out of an ant's head," said Attenborough.

Dr. Henrik de Fine Licht is a professor at the University of Copenhagen. He says that this fungus might infect humans, as reported by Daily Mail.

"Many, if not most of the new diseases are likely to come from pathogenic organisms transferring from other species, so the idea is exciting," he said.

However, research shows that fungi cannot infect hot-blooded creatures like humans. It is because fungi only live in a place with wet conditions and cold temperatures.
