At the centre of the Army Camp road is this famous historical statue, now forgotten, of Sir Thomas Munro popularly called 'The Stirrupless Majesty'. He was a rare & benevolent British officer favourable to Indians. Wish the statue could be relocated to a better place or maintained in a better way.

Statue of Sir Thomas Munro, who served as a governor of Madras presidency from 1820 to 1827 during the British colonial rule. Although most of the statues of the colonial rulers were removed after independence, only the statue of Munro was retained due to his contribution to Madras through his exceptional administration and people friendly approach. Statue is located at the beginning of Anna Salai right at the center of the road. It's well fenced and area around this statue is neatly maintained. However, the statue itself needs little maintenance.

Thomas Munro was one of the most popular British administrators in South India. After his death, Munro’s admirers and friends of both in India and England raised funds through public contributions in 1831 and decided to perpetuate the memory of Thomas Munro by erecting his statue in Madras. The bronze statue was sculpted by Francis Chantrey in the United Kingdom in 1834 and shipped to then Madras in 1839. Now statue is not properly maintained.

Netaji's statue is a better option than keeping some britisher who enslaved us for years. Our slavery mindset needs to change. We have so many proud leaders. Britishers were just treating us so badly and we still have their statutes all over India

The Sir Thomas Munro Statue is a magnificent tribute to a great administrator and a visionary leader. The attention to detail and the level of craftsmanship that has gone into the statue is truly remarkable. It is a fitting memorial to a man who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people he served. The statue's location in a prominent public space also serves as a reminder of the contributions that Sir Thomas Munro made to his community and to society as a whole.

Though it is a unique statue, the importance goes to the State of the Art Army CSD Canteen, Officer's Mess and Guest Rooms operated here by the Army DB Area HQ.

It's the statue made in stone for Sir Thomas Munroe, former Governor of Madras during 1814 to 1827. Majestically looking Sir Thomas Munroe sitting on a horse back looks good. From here Anna Salai (earlier known as Mount Road) starts. The place is quiet and traffic is not much as this place is military area. No park or chairs are available. You can park your vehicle on side of the road and take pictures.

Sir Thomas Munrao was born on 27 May 1761 and died on 6 July 1827. He was a Scottish  soldier and he was served as an East Indian Company Army also he was served as the governor of then Madras Presidency. Whenever I used to cross this status I was eager to take photo of it. The horse and Sir Munrao's sculpture was so accurate and very professional. One fine afternoon I spent half an hour there and took few clicks in my mobile.
