Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who has been associated with the Delhi Capitals as a mentor in the ongoing IPL 2024 season, was seen giving a standing ovation to Rishabh Pant after the DC skipper played a MS Dhoni-like helicopter shot against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday (April 24). The incident took place on the first ball of the 16th over of DC’s innings, which was bowled by Mohit Sharma. The 26-year-old Pant was batting on 34 runs from 26 balls at that time.
He flicked Mohit for a six, and Ganguly, who was watching the game from the sidelines, couldn’t stop himself from standing up and appreciating Pant’s brilliant shot. The video of Ganguly giving a standing ovation to Pant is now going viral on the internet.

In the ninth league stage match of IPL 2024 for DC, which was played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Pant scored 88 runs from 43 balls. He came out to bat at No. 5 for the Delhi-based franchise and hammered five fours and eight sixes. The star left-handed wicketkeeper-batter added 113 runs for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel (66 runs from 43 balls) and helped DC post a total of 224 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets, which in the end proved to be enough for DC to win the match by four runs.
Thanks to his 88-run knock, Pant has now moved to No. 3 position in the leading run scorers list in IPL 2024. In nine matches, he has 342 runs to his name. Only Virat Kohli (379) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (349) are ahead of Pant in the Orange Cap list.
By smacking eight sixes against GT, Pant has also taken his tally of maximums to 150 for DC in the cash-rich league. He is the first Delhi Capitals batter to hit 150 or more sixes in the IPL.
