'Batting Quality Dropped Due To...': Sourav Ganguly Blames Poor Pitches For India's Batting Woes

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that BCCI should produce sporting wickets in India. The veteran feels that Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar are good enough to take 20 wickets on any pitch. Ganguly feels that India's batting quality has dropped in the last few years due to poor pitches at home.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels BCCI should not prepare rank turners in home series as the Indian pacers are good enough to pick 20 wickets on good pitches. Ganguly's remarks came amidst Jaspirt Bumrah's fiery spell that broke the spine of England's batting. Bumrah finished with figures of 6-45 as India bowled out England for 253 in the first innings.
Bumrah was on fire on a flat Visakhapatnam track and shattered several records in a game-changing spell. Bumrah picked up the wickets of Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Tom Hartley and James Anderson. The wicket of Stokes was his 150th wicket in Test cricket. He became the fastest Indian pacer to take 150 Test wickets.
Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj form a lethal bowling trio and have delivered positive results overseas. However, in home conditions, India have mostly relied on the spinners - R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. While Indian bowlers have been brilliant in Tests, the batters have struggled and Ganguly feels that the batting quality has dropped because of the poor pitch in India.
"When I see Bumrah Sami Siraj Mukesh bowl . I wonder why do we need to prepare turning tracks in india ..my conviction of playing on good wickets keeps getting stronger every game .. They will get 20 wickets on any surface with ashwin jadeja Kuldeep and axar .. batting quality dropping because of pitches in last 6 to 7 yrs at home ..good wickets are a must .. india will still win over 5 days...@bcci," he wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Bumrah's six-fer ensured that India take a handy 143-run lead in the first innings. The team scored 28 runs in five overs before stumps on Day 2 to extend their lead to 171.
