On November 26, 2008, the news of a terror attack on Mumbai in Maharashtra, India shook humanity. It was reported that ten terrorists from Pakistan entered India via sea route on two inflatable boats and carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across the city. 

The attacks began on November 26, 2008, and went on till November 29, 2008. Over the course of four days, as many as 174 people were killed including 9 out of 10 terrorists. More than 300 people were injured. 

One terrorist, Ajmal Kasab was caught alive by Mumbai Police. Kasab was hanged to death four years later on November 21, 2012, in Yerwada Jail, Pune.

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, The Attacks of 26/11 was one of the first mainstream Hindi films to be based on the attacks. The movie starred Nana Patekar in the lead role. It received mixed reviews and failed at the box office. 

Hotel Mumbai (2019)

Directed by Australian filmmaker Anthony Maras, the international film Hotel Mumbai was inspired by 2009 Documentary Surviving Mumbai. The movie was primarily about The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, its employees, and its guests. Hotel Mumbai received immense critical acclaim upon its release. It starred Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Jason Isaacs, and Anupam Kher. 

Taj Mahal (2015)

A French-Belgian thriller drama, Taj Mahal is helmed by Nicolas Saada and stars french actress Stacy Martin in the lead. Similar to Hotel Mumbai, Taj Mahal was primarily about the tourists at The Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai.

Aagaah: The Warning (2011)

Directed by Karan Razdan, Aagaah: The Warning, was primarily a horror film based against the backdrop of the 26/11 attacks. The movie starring Anupam Kher, Atul Kulkarni, Satish Kaushik, Ila Arun, and Rituparna Sengupta was a critical and commercial failure. 

Phantom (2015)

The Kabir Khan directorial starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif was about the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks. In the film, Saif's character is sent on a mission to kill all those responsible for the 2008 Mumbai Attacks. 

Shahid (2012)

A biopic on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, Shahid, helmed by Hansal Mehta starred Rajkummar Rao. In the movie, there is a sequence where Shahid defends Faheem Ansari who is accused of perpetrating the 26/11 attacks.
