Renovating Tagore’s Kacharibari in Kushtia

Kushtia's Kumarkhali Upazila's Shilaidah Kachari house of the poet Rabindranath Tagore was abandoned.
And the renovation of that abandoned kachari house is going on. The renovation work has started from last Wednesday under the supervision of Directorate of Development, Khulna Regional Office. One-fourth of the house is being renovated in the current financial year.

After the renovation, the house will be open to visitors and an exhibition of Rabindranath Tagore's literary works will be arranged. Locals said that in 1891 Rabindranath Tagore came to Shilaidah from Kolkata to supervise the zamindari on the orders of his father.
There, he built a house on about 5 acres of land and used to collect rent. He wrote numerous songs, poems and plays in Shilaidh during the tenure of Zamindari. An agricultural revolution took place in this region. He established cooperative societies, cooperative banks. Visiting the house, it is seen that the two-storied house is covered with weeds and wild vines.
There are no doors and windows. The Palestinians have fallen. The roof of one room collapsed. Dung (raw dung) is dried on the walls and floor of the second floor of the house. Some workers are doing renovation work. Shariful Islam, a former member of UP, said that his grandfather and maternal uncle were doing the work of collecting rent on horses.
The house has been abandoned for about 60-70 years. Many visitors come and go. Reforms were needed earlier. Humayon Ahmed, the contractor, said that he has started the renovation work at a cost of about 32 lakh taka.
He will only change the abandoned bricks, wood and iron of the building. The renovation work is expected to be completed by June this year. Shilaidah Rabindra Kuthibari Custodian Al Amin said that in 2018, the Kacharibari was handed over to the Department of Public Works.
For the first time, renovation work has started on a priority basis. But not the whole building, only the abandoned bricks, wood, iron will be renovated. One fourth of the houses will be renovated in the current financial year. If the allocation is received, the renovation work of the whole house will be done in the next two-three financial years.
