KARACHI: Matthew Miller, the US State Department spokesperson, has said his country welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of congratulation for Shehbaz Sharif on being elected Pakistan’s new prime minister.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, he said the United States would welcome a peaceful and constructive dialogue between India and Pakistan.
However, Miller said, the pace and role of the dialogue would have to be determined by the two South Asian neighbours.
The State Department spokesperson emphasized that the US values its ties with both India and Pakistan.
