The railways will install a centralised signal monitoring cabin to streamline train traffic and construct two more platforms at the New Jalpaiguri station at an expense of Rs 26 crore.

"As of now, the signalling system at NJP (in file picture) is monitored from three route-relay interlocking (RRI) cabins. So, all the three cabins need to be co-ordinated for finalising the signalling. It has been decided that instead of the three cabins, there will be one centralised signal-monitoring cabin. Naturally, the signalling system will be much faster and trains can move in and out quickly," said a senior railway official at NJP.

Partha Seal, the area manager of NJP, said two more platforms would be built at the station. As of now, there are six platforms at NJP
