Ahoi Ashtami 2021: Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha Images and Wishes

Ahoi Ashtami is a festival of Hindu celebrated eight days before Diwali. This year the Ahoi Ashtami is observed on Thursday, 28 October. The festival comes under the month of Kartik as per the Purnimant calendar followed in North India and under the month of Ashvin as per Amanta calendar followed by the southern states of India such as Gujarat and Maharashtra. Though the months are different the fasting for the festival is observed on the same day.

The fasting and other rituals of this festival are dedicated mainly to Goddess Ahoi also called Mata Ahoi who is actually Goddess Parvati. This is a kind of festival where mothers across the country worship the Goddess Ahoi for the long life and well-being of their children so that the Goddess protects their children. The Ahoi Ashtami is also known as Ahoi Aathe as the fasting is done during Ashtami.

The rituals start as women on fasting wake up early morning of the day and after bathing they take a pledge which is called Sankalp. The pledge signifies that their purpose of fasting is none other than wishing for the well-being of their children. The Sankalp or pledge also mentions that they won't be eating anything throughout the day of fasting and even stay without drinking. According to many family traditions, the breaking of the fast would take place only after the sighting of the moon or the stars.

The practices and preparations of the Ahoi Ashtami puja are held until sunset. One of the important parts of the rituals includes women drawing beautiful images of Goddess Ahoi along with images of Children and lions on the wall with the use of geru. Women also make embroidered images on pieces of clothes that they use to hang on the wall after completion. As the festival is connected with Ashtami Tithi the images and drawings of Mata Ahoi for puja need to have eight corners called Ashta Koshthak.

Kalash covered with small earthen pot is used for puja ritual the pot is called Karwa which remains filled with water and the nozzle blocked with shoots of grasses known as Sarai Seenka.
