A strict household

In an interview on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Tina shared that pressure from the Ambani family forced her to give up her film career in exchange for her marriage to Anil. She said she has no regrets.

In a 2012 interview with Indian novelist and columnist Shobhaa De, she revealed that she is “a hands-on wife and a strict mum”, explaining that she had raised her boys to be “obedient”. She said she also tracked where they are and made an effort to befriend the parents of her children’s friends to keep even more up-to-date on their whereabouts.

Tina also told De that she makes a concerted effort to ignore rumours and that “nothing rattles her”, explaining that she has learnt to trust herself, and that she also trusts Anil completely.

“People around you will always try and play games, manipulate you, pull you down. I stay miles away from Mumbai society and have zero interest in other people’s lives or idle gossip. At this stage in my life it’s important to get rid of negativity.”

Tina also told Garewal that Anil thought the film industry was superficial and she fell for him because he was “a genuine guy”.

But she also revealed that Anil loves details, and describes how she once had to source a mattress after he liked the one he slept on at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City.

The yacht

Anil gifted Tina and his boys a luxury yacht called Tian in 2008, according to Economic Times India. The yacht’s name is derived from the first two letters of the couple’s name. The newspaper reported that owning a yacht was one of Tina’s “long-cherished dreams”.

Tina also told De that Anil gets seasick, so the yacht ended up becoming her space. She added that Anil likes to spoil the family when they are on holiday, explaining how Anil would order the best champagne and wine. The family prefers remote holidays, especially safaris.
