New Jalpaiguri Railway Station has been certified as a "Eat Right Station" by the Food Safety and Standard Association of India (FSSAI), the Ministry of Railways said on Twitter. The certification is given in appreciation of the station's services in providing passengers with wholesome, high-quality food. Only a small number of India's thousands of stations—including the 64-year-old New Jalpaiguri Railway Station—have received this distinction thus far. The ministry tweeted its praise for the station's efforts, stating that the accreditation shows complete compliance on the part of the station to guarantee that passengers have access to safe and hygienic meals.

The accreditation is a part of a bigger initiative that Indian Railways is leading to change the food chain system. It's an effort to address the persistent grievances raised by passengers and online community members regarding the subpar cuisine served on trains. Train stations that set the standard for offering passengers healthy and safe food are granted the 'Eat Right Station' certification by the Food Safety Authority of India (FSSAI). After an independent auditing firm appointed by the FSSAI evaluates the station and gives it a grade between one and five, the station is given a certificate.  With the stations in Durgapur, Asansol, Harishchandrapur, and Esplande Metro, New Jalpaiguri is now the fifth railway station in Bengal to be awarded this esteemed title.

New Jalpaiguri is the hub for visitors from all over India who come to see the well-known hill station of Darjeeling, in addition to the encouraging news. Approximately 200 trains operate at this intersection every day, both coming from and going through.
