Aloysia citriodora is a perennial (in zone 8 and higher) shrub/subshrub from South America (Argentina and Chile). The leaves are heavily lemon- scented and used in teas and desserts. Sometimes used in herbal medicines to treat colds, fevers, dyspepsia and diarrhea. Rarely flowers in zone 8 but reliably returns each spring from the roots/stem base. It is commonly known as lemon verbena in English and hierba luisa en Spanish.
