Wood anemone are outstanding plants that, for some unknown reason, are rarely seen in gardens. Perhaps it is because they go dormant in summer? We love them anyway for their masses of early blooming single, white star-shaped flowers and attractive low-growing foliage.

This is one of the easiest plants to grow in shade as it colonizes quickly by rhizome and tolerates both light and heavy soil. Grow them in a woodland setting, in the shade garden, or under trees or large shrubs.

Best planted in fall. Deer, rabbit, and drought tolerant.

These plants are Nyctinastic, which means that their flowers close up and nod in cloudy or rainy weather and in the evening.
