Dock/Pier, Ferry - Passenger, Firewood For Sale/Available, Restroom

Cumberland Island is only accessible by boat. A concession-operated passenger ferry brings visitors to the island. Boats depart at 9:00 am and 11:45 am from Saint Marys, GA. Please check-in at the visitor center one hour prior to departure. The trip to the island takes 45 minutes. The ferry will drop off at both the Dungeness and Sea camp docks in the morning at 9:45 am and 12:30 pm. Visitors wanting to access the Dungeness Historic District should consider getting off the ferry at Dungeness. Campers, beachgoers, visitors with bikes, and those who wish to rent bikes will need to get off at Sea Camp.

The ferry will depart from Sea Camp and Dungeness at 2:45 pm (when available) and 4:45 pm. There is a 10:15 am return option for campers or visitors who just want a ferry ride. There is no 10:15 am departure at Dungeness dock.

Ferry Costs and Reservations

The ferry is $40 for adults, $38 for seniors (62+), $30 for youth (15 and under) and free for kids 5 and under (prices listed do not include 7% GA sales tax). Ferry fee does not include $10 national park entrance fee. Ferry reservations are strongly recommended, as boats have limited space. Though 5 and under kids are free, you will still need to secure a resrvation for them.

Bikes are allowed on the ferry for an additional $10 fee. Reservations for bringing your own bike are available and strongly recommended. E-bikes are allowed as long as they are pedal-assist only, and less than 1 hp (750 watts). Read more about where you can ride your bike in the 'Things To Do" section.

During December, January, and February the ferry does not operate on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Campers should check ferry schedule and availability before making camping reservations. Campers should load their gear onto the ferry before main boarding to save time. Wagons are permitted on the ferry if you are camping at Sea Camp only. Large, 5 gallon propane tanks are not allowed on the ferry.
