Extended Alphabets

Coptic • Syriac • Ugaritic • Akkadian

Nota Bene’s extended alphabets expand Lingua Workstation’s range beyond Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, and Cyrillic to include other alphabets used in near-eastern, classical, and biblical studies.

These alphabets:

  • Are fully integrated into Lingua (they use the same advanced [non-font-based] language mechanism as do the existing alphabets supported by Lingua)
  • Can be used in the word processor proper, in Ibidem bibliographic databases, and in Orbis (free-form text retrieval)

Included in each module is everything you need to work in that language:
  • Fonts (all very high-quality True Type fonts, fully scalable from 4 point to over 250 point)
Coptic — Nag Hammadi style font
           Syriac — Estrangelo font
Akkadian — Hollow font (full Rykle Borger glyph set)
           Ugaritic — Standard font
  • Keyboard files
  • Language/alphabet switching keyboard shortcuts
  • Accent tables (F6 has been updated for each alphabet)
  • Advanced pop-up character selection menu (Akkadian only)
  • Automatic right-to-left typing and editing (Syriac only)
  • Rendering tables for highest quality placement of accents

The following NB screen shot only shows sample characters (not intelligible text) from each alphabet (note that the resolution of this screen shot [96 dpi] is much less than the usual 600, 1200, or higher dpi printer resolution):
