Laughter at Border Collie Who Thinks He's Human 'More and More Every Day'

A majority of pet owners these days consider their dogs to be members of the family showing up in Christmas cards, going on vacation, and now, even having a spot at the kitchen table.

In a TikTok video posted earlier this week by user @sausagesoxandsteve, a 4-month-old puppy named Steve is seen sitting all bright-eyed and alert at the head of the table. He was thrilled to be there as others surrounded him on either side.

The way the border collie is sitting makes him look like he's the newest member of the family waiting for his breakfast to be served. His ears are perked up and he's making eye contact. He's enjoying being part of the conversation and now, he expects to sit at the table every meal.

The text on the video, which has over 35,000 views as of Friday afternoon, reads: "Steve thinks he's human more and more every day. He could smell the bacon and thought he'd try his luck."

Steve blends in with the rest of the family and even calmly waits for someone to pass him a little nibble of their food without making a peep. In the video, one person at the table is seen pointing and laughing at the puppy waiting for his food, which did not go unnoticed by viewers.

One TikTok user wrote: "So polite about it though. Just here waiting for my plate. Don't mind me."

Another user commented: "Aww beautiful Steve! I hope he got at least a wee sausage! His table manners are perfect."

"Good lad Steve. Hope he got a large portion," added another.

However, the owner shared with Newsweek via TikTok that there was no bacon shared with the pup because they did not want to teach him bad habits.

"I do spoil him more than I should because he is just so well-behaved and unbelievably cute," the owner added.

Plus, it is advised to avoid feeding table scraps to dogs. It's nearly impossible to resist their adorable begging faces, but one must remain strong and keep their health in mind.

Begging is a natural behavior for dogs. However, owners can get frustrated if their dogs are constantly begging from anyone who enters the house. Once a dog is given food following their begging, they are more likely to become more persistent with it, WebMD states on its website.

To prevent your dog from begging, owners are advised to redirect their pups from being near you while you eat, according to WebMD. You can put them in another room or a dog crate. If neither option sounds appealing, you could try training them to go to their spot or redirect their attention to something else.
