Delhi Metro Phase-IV: 3 upcoming corridors to get new generation trains, get nod for fast-track construction

Delhi Metro latest update: Out of the six lines proposed under the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV, three are priority corridors that will be constructed first. The priority corridors include Majlis Park – Maujpur spanning 12.32 kms (an extension of Magenta Line), Janakpuri West – RK Ashram spanning 29.26 km (extension of Pink Line), and Tughlakabad – Delhi Aerocity spanning 23.62 km is being built as Golden Line to connect Violet Line and Airport Line.

New Delhi: CM Arvind Kejriwal has agreed to sign the long-pending Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Delhi government, the Centre, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with regards to the three priority corridors being built under Phase-IV of Delhi metro. As per official sources, the MoU will be signed in the next week. Under the Phase-IV of the Delhi metro, the DMRC will construct a 65.2-km stretch. This will include three priority corridors encompassing 46 stations.

 

Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV metro: Routes, distance covered, stations

A total of six lines were proposed for Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV under two categories – ‘under construction’ and ‘under consideration’. The combined length of the six corridors would be 128.81 km. Out of this, three priority corridors, that will be constructed first, will span 65.20 km and have 46 stations.

The priority corridors include Majlis Park – Maujpur spanning 12.32 kms (an extension of Magenta Line), Janakpuri West – RK Ashram spanning 29.26 km (extension of Pink Line), and Tughlakabad – Delhi Aerocity spanning 23.62 km is being built as Golden Line to connect Violet Line and Airport Line.

Meanwhile, the three ‘under-consideration’ corridors were planned for 42.26 km with 33 stations. These are Rithala – Bawana – Narela metro corridor spanning 21.73 km, Inderlok – Indraprastha corridor spanning 12.57 km, and Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block spanning 7.96 km. These three proposed corridors are awaiting the Centre’s approval.

In July last year, the DMRC also said that the proposed Rithala – Bawana – Narela corridor may also get extended till Kundli in Haryana to provide better connectivity. It added that two additional corridors are also under consideration — Aerocity – IGDT-1, and Kirti Nagar – Bamnoli village.

 

Delhi Metro Phase-4 to have new generation trains

The DMRC will deploy latest generation of train sets for Delhi Metro’s Phase IV corridor. The new-age trains will provide a smooth and comfortable ride for the Delhi metro commuters. In November 2022, the DMRC awarded the contract to Alstom to deliver 52 train sets, each having six coaches. The company started manufacturing the new generation of metro train sets at its factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

The total cost of manufacturing the 52 train sets is estimated around 312 million euros. This includes the maintenance of 13 train sets of the new line for next 15 years.

 

Delhi Metro Phase-4: Train speed, key features

The new generation train to deployed on Phase-4 corridors of Delhi Metro will have a designed speed of 95 kmph and the operational speed of 85 kmph. It will also have a Grade of Automation (GoA) 4 driverless feature. The train sets will be Inspired by the tricolours of the national flag of India. The door pillar for the trains’ interior will have a mix of saffron, white, and green colour. The front of the train for the Tughlakabad – Delhi Aerocity corridor will have a metallic gold paint.
