"Made in Loyalty": towards an economic label for the Loyalty Islands

Economic meetings have taken place in Lifou for the first time during the past three days, organised by the Loyalty Islands Province to highlight the island's entrepreneurs and enhance their heritage and products.

The Loyalty Islands are developing a roadmap and a label for economic expansion. Multiple players from the economic world are brought together in Lifou to discuss the strategy to be implemented and the development of the “Made In Loyalty” label. The event responds to the priorities displayed by President Jacques Lalié in his election program on July 2019.

The announced objectives of the event are divided into three axes: the promotion of products from the Loyalty Islands, the creation of synergies between the customary and the economic world, and the reinforcement of economic development on customary lands.

The sectors that are being prioritized by the Province are seafood, textiles and construction.

Carold Vassilev, Honorary President of the FINC (Federation of New Caledonia Industries) stated: “The Loyalty Islands Province is full of economic treasures such as copra, vanilla and avocado.”

One of the goals of these events is for young islanders to become entrepreneurs. At the end of these meetings, conventions will be signed to promote the “Made in Loyalty” label.
