Remember these old gems
Remember these old gems

Remember those good old stress-free days when you were a kid and really didn’t care? Life then was a series of joy rides that you took from one fabulous vehicle to another! Recalling those wheels you rode on, here are 7 memorable vehicles that aren’t as common as they were when we were little!

1. The Premier 118NE

There were one of these in every building parking lot and they looked like a box. The Premier 118NE was derived from the Fiat in 1981.

2.The Padmini

These are still around as taxis in Mumbai. But if you look harder, you will spot a few in old colours like a bright red or sunny yellow!

3. The Contessa

It was kind of India’s answer to the muscle car, in design. One of the few Indian manufactured luxury cars, the Hindustan Contessa was popular among government officials at one point.

4. The Ambassador

Though it’s known as the Kind of Indian Roads and the Indian government owned a number of them, The Ambassador originates form The United Kingdom. It’s based on the 1959 Morris Oxford.

Now let’s move on to the two wheelers!

5. Kinetic Luna

These little guys ruled the streets like a boss. There were all over in the villages and the cities. The moped is still produced and marketed in India.

6. Sunny

It was a gear-less scooterette that was hard sold to teenagers but grandpas took a strong liking to it too! In fact, I remember I wanted one so bad. Never got it!

7. Yezdi

I had a friend in college who had saved money to buy a vintage Yezdi. All in all, the Yezdi was one of the coolest looking bikes on Indian roads and was in completion with Rajdoot 350 by Yamaha.
