Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May in 1861. Rabindranath Tagore was born in Kolkata in a family whose economic condition was very good. He was famous for visiting every Historical Places Of AncientIndia.


Rabindra Nath Tagore's father's name was Devendra Nath Tagore. Ravindra Nath Tagore was the 9th son of Devendra Nath. Sarada Devi was the mother of Rabindranath Tagore.

Rabindranath Tagore ji had done his studies at home only. Some teachers used to teach them at home. Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather's name was Dwarkanath Tagore.

Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather was very rich. He was a well-known zamindar and social reformer.

He was the thirteenth child of his parents. In childhood, he was fondly called 'Rabi'. At the age of eight he wrote his first poem, at the age of sixteen he started writing stories and plays.

When Ravindra Nath Tagore went on a trip to India with his father. You went there on a tour of Shantiniketan and Amritsar before reaching the Dalhousie hill station in the Himalayas.

When Rabindranath Tagore was 11 years old, he left Kolkata with his father in 1873 and he was traveling with his father for several days in India.

In his life, he wrote one thousand poems, eight novels, eight story collections and many articles on various subjects. Not only this Rabindranath Tagore was a music lover and he composed more than 2000 songs in his life. Two songs written by him are today the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.

For 51 years of his life, all his achievements and successes were confined to Kokata and its surrounding area only. At the age of 51, he was going to England with his son. While going from India to England by sea route, he started translating his poetry collection Gitanjali into English. He had no intention behind translating Gitanjali, just to pass the time he started translating Gitanjali. He translated Gitanjali into English in his own hand in a notebook.

While disembarking in London, her son forgot the suitcase in which she had kept the notebook. This historical masterpiece was not destined to disappear in a locked suitcase. The person who got that suitcase himself delivered that suitcase to Rabindranath Tagore the very next day.

Rabindranath Tagore was the first Nobel laureate from Asia. Who won the Nobel Prize for his poems. He won the Nobel Prize in 1913 for Gitanjali and other poems.

Rabindranath Tagore was knighted by King George V of the British. Rabindranath Tagore's poems were famous not only in India but all over the world.


Rabindranath Tagore has written the national anthems of India and Bangladesh. Rabindranath Tagore's poem Jana Gana Mana is the national anthem of India. Amar Sonar Bangla, the second poem by Rabindra Nath, is the national anthem of Bangladesh.

Where he practiced history, astronomy, modern science, Sanskrit as well as biography of great people.


There he also studied the poems of Kalidas ji. In 1874, Rabindranath Tagore's poem Abhilasha was published secretly in a magazine named Tatobodhini.


In 1878 Rabindranath Tagore's first book of poems named "Kavi Kahani" was published.

Rabindranath Tagore went to England in 1878 with his elder brother Satyendra Nath Tagore to study law.

After that he returned to India in 1880. After coming to India, he started his life as a poet and writer.

Rabindranath Tagore was married in 1883. Rabindranath Tagore was married to Mrinalini Devi Rai Chowdhary.


Rabindranath Tagore had two sons and three daughters. In 1884, Rabindranath Tagore wrote several plays and poems, including "Kori o Kalam, Raja au Rani, and Visarjan".

After that in 1890 Ravindra Nath Tagore Shilaidaha which is in present day Bangladesh. went to live there.

The reason for going there was that he had gone to see the property of his family. Meanwhile, from 1893 to 1900, Rabindranath Tagore wrote another collection of 7 poems.

In which poems like Sonar Tari, Kanika were included. Rabindra Nath Tagore became the editor of the magazine Banga Darshan in 1901.

The very next year, in 1902, his wife died. After which Rabindra Nath Tagore wrote a collection of poems named "Smaran", dedicating it to the memory of his wife.

When in 1905 Lord Curzon decided to divide Bengal into two departments. So Ravindra Nath ji strongly opposed this decision.

Rabindranath Tagore participated in many protest meetings. After that Ravindra Tagore introduced the Rakhi Bandhan ceremony as a symbol of the unity of undivided Bengal.

Rabindranath Tagore started writing Gitanjali in 1909. After that Rabindranath Tagore once again went to Europe in 1912.


This was his second trip to Europe. During his visit to London, he translated some of his poems and songs into English.


After that Rabindranath Tagore met William Rothenstein in London. William was a painter. He was greatly influenced by the poems of Rabindranath Tagore.

He made some copies of Rabindranath Tagore's poems. William then gave those copies to Yeats and some English poets. 

Yeats was quite thrilled at that time. He was greatly influenced by the poems of Rabindranath Tagore. He showed the introduction of Gitanjali when it was published in September 1912.


After that Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize. This Nobel Prize was given to him in 1913 for Gitanjali.


Rabindranath Tagore was a great supporter of Gandhiji. But he never ventured into politics.

In 1921, Rabindra Nath Tagore established a university named Visva Bharati. He gave all the accumulated capital of his life to build this university.

Even he gave all the money received in the Nobel Prize to the university.

In 1940, Oxford University organized a special function. In which he was honored with a doctorate degree in literature.


Gurudev Ravindra Nath Tagore died in the year 1941. He died on 7 August 1941 at his ancestral home in Kolkata. And with this a great poet and writer left this world.
