India is a country with a variety of mineral resources and abundant resources. The India government has a very clear understanding of their mineral resources strength, developed a complete system of mining regulations and policies, requirements of mining enterprises must scientifically and systematically the development of mineral resources, from the source to eliminate waste, the industrial sector must be frugal in the use of resources.

So far, India has proven reserves of 89 kinds of minerals. Metal minerals are mainly aluminum, iron, chromium, manganese, copper, lead, zinc, tin, silver and gold, of which chromite, manganese ore, iron ore and bauxite production ranks 10 in the world. Non metallic mineral is barite, mica, gypsum, dolomite, limestone, magnesite, talc, mica and phosphate, the barite production ranks first in the world, ranking third in the world. India coal and lignite production ranks third in the world, oil production accounted for about 2.77% of world oil production, natural gas production accounted for about 1.1% of world production.

India has long been the implementation of import substitution policy. The development of mineral resources is based on meeting the needs of the country, and the advantages of the mineral products can only be exported under the premise of meeting the domestic demand. Overall, India mineral products supply external dependence is relatively high, the export and import of mineral products in India in 2017 deficit of 70 billion 660 million rupees. Diamond processing products exports accounted for exports of 77%, iron ore accounted for 9%, accounting for 5% of granite, alumina accounted for 2%, accounting for 2% of the gem. India imports of mineral products 117 billion 294 million rupees, accounting for the total import and export trade of mineral products of 71.56%. India's oil imports accounted for 66% of the import trade, uncut diamond imports accounted for more than 25% of imports of other important minerals are copper concentrate, coke, phosphate rock, precious stones and sulfur.
