When markets are tough it is all the more important to be where the action is and to assure customer centricity also on the top level of our SWISS KRONO Group. This is why I travelled with the chairman of our Board of Directors Dr. Reto H. Müller to our US laminate flooring facility in Barnwell (SC). We met with Lowe's Companies, Inc. flooring senior leadership with Marc Maldoff and Pamela Babineau to discuss the future of the North American flooring market. Many opportunities for those who listen to the market... At the plant we discussed our plan for our just about to start new business year 2023/24 with our US General Manager Erik Christensen and our SKUS Leadership Team with Aaron Johnson, CPA, Steve Carroll, Kyle Brown, Andy Paredes and Cecilia Allen, PHR. Great team that is poised for success!

I recently had the honor to appear in The CEO Magazine - Europe speaking with Finbarr Toesland about the art of overcoming challenges. Concretely about what we did throughout the covid crisis, and what we are doing during the current energy crisis to keep SWISS KRONO GROUP thriving. How did we thrive during the covid crisis? By following good management practices and reducing output immediately. We kept our birdseye view and responded quickly to the sharp uptick in demand from mid-2020 onwards when people stuck in their homes people started investing in new flooring and furniture. We managed to turn 2021 into our best business year by far. Strategic partnerships and collaborations were another key to our success. We understand their immense value and go beyond the typical supplier relationship by teaming up on research projects with key partners. We want to be there from day one and gain a first-mover advantage. While these initiatives may not always yield something, when they do we find ourselves in a top position. Before we could even celebrate our success, the next crisis struck. This current crisis, stemming from the Ukraine war and its grave energy consequences, is a whole different beast. It is important that we acknowledge that the years ahead will be difficult and that we are likely not going to get back to the paradise that once was. We are confident however that the skills, business and management practices that we took away from the COVID crisis, will also allow us to navigate these difficult times ahead. In each downtime situation and in each crisis, there also is opportunity for those who are flexible and fast. When markets are tough (like building material markets are right now in the context of high interest rates and reduced purchasing power and low consumer confidence), sitting in the office and in meetings is just not cutting it. One has to be out and talk to customers to understand what is going on. Recently, I travelled to Belgrade, Serbia, to visit OSB and flooring customers together with Bogdan Bodis and Balazs Recsey from SWISS KRONO GROUP Hungary and Dusan Tucakov, our flooring agent for Krontotex.    I noted that the Serbian market is complex and full of challenges, but I have been impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit we encountered everywhere. Design award: Junckers Hexparket wins at 'Designfavoritter 2023' "We are thrilled to have won, especially because the winner is determined by the readers who voted for us as their favourite," says Susanne Nordvig, CMO at Junckers. Once a year, the two Danish lifestyle magazines Bo Bedre and Boligmagasinet nominate design products in different categories and let the readers decide who their favourites are. With my uncle Kumarmangalam Birla chacha last week. All branches of the Birla family flew in to Goa for the day, for the inauguration of the new Birla Mandir at the BITS Pilani (Birla Institute of Tech & Science) campus. This is one of the over 30 Birla Temples spread across India. Grateful to be born in a family that has not only for over 100 years pursued industry looking to the interest of the nation, but is actually known MORE for contributing to the social and spiritual ethos of this great land. It’s been amazing to learn from an early age how to balance the material and spiritual worlds demonstrated so beautifully by 6 generations before me ☺️🙏🏼

I resigned from my JOB. My boss kept blocking all my attempts to move forward in the company. He would never sign off my applications for internal positions I applied for. I was stuck in a dead-end job with a boss who was a micromanager. A bad boss can make your work life miserable. I had to be constantly looking over my shoulders and making sure I dot my i's and cross my t's at all times. It was a stark contrast to my first boss who "spoiled" us with autonomy, empathy, trust and respect. A bad iob with a Good Boss is Better than a Good Job with a bad boss. Your boss can easily set you up to fail or succeed. The single most important decider of your success at any job or company is how much your boss likes you or wants you to succeed.
