Mexicali Rose Fairy Duster Calliandra californica 'Mexicali Rose' I'm always thrilled to come across a plant that I introduced in a landscape. Today, while driving around Tucson, AZ, I spotted Mexicali Rose in a common area of a new residential landscape. This stunning plant showcases at least twice the number of blooms of a typical Calliandra californica and keeps blooming throughout the year in frost-free environments. Additionally, it is one the best nectar sources for a wide variety of pollinators. https://lnkd.in/g2K5crSm

Outback Sunrise Emu Bush Eremophila glabra 'Outback Sunrise' This is a new favorite low water plant of mine for commercial and residential landscapes. This winter blooming evergreen groundcover thrives in the extreme dry heat of Las Vegas, inland California, Phoenix, and Tucson valleys. During the late fall to spring season, Outback Sunrise produces numerous tubular yellow flowers that can almost completely cover the plant. It can grow up to 18 inches in height and spread up to 8 feet wide. For optimal growth, this resilient plant prefers well-draining soils and can perform well in clay, but only on a slope or a mound where it can drain freely. With the ability to withstand temperatures as low as 15°F, Outback Sunrise Emu Bush is a great addition to dry climate landscapes in the Southwest USA.

Cercis canadensis var. mexicana Mexican Redbud Phonetic Spelling SER-sis kan-ah-DEN-sis Mexican Redbud is the best Cercis variety for hot and dry areas of the Southwest US, such as El Paso, Las Cruces, Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs. This woody, deciduous, perennial shrub or tree, part of the Fabaceae (bean) family, can reach a height and width of 11 to 15 feet and has a dense, rounded crown. Mexican redbud is native to southwestern Texas and northeastern Mexico, and it derives its name from the reddish color of its inner bark. Mexican redbud thrives in all soil types, including shallow rocky areas, as long as the soil is well-drained and occasionally dry. You can plant it in full sun or partial shade.
