Plugging the report ‘Commons in India: A Civil Society Perspective’ that was published earlier this year, that outlines the socio-economic and cultural aspects of the communities’ relationship with Commons across the different ecological regions in India. Carrying insights from consultations with diverse practitioners and academicians, the report provides an overview of the existing status of Commons, the best practices around their governance, conservation, and management, as well as the threats they face. It calls for us to imagine a brighter future where Commons are preserved, nurtured, and sustainably managed for generations to come. In Pukali village, such haats are of vital economic and cultural significance, supporting livelihoods and fostering community cohesion. Recently, an Organic Produce Selling Corner was organised by the Annapurna Producer Group in this market to promote sustainable agricultural practices, and facilitate fair prices for farmers as part of the Agriculture Production Cluster project in Odisha. #Conservation #CommunityAction #PromiseOfCommons #GenerationRestoration

Each year, the temperatures soar to a new high, leaving large segments of population struggling to beat the heat and meet their basic needs of water and livelihood security. Tackling this climate crisis requires long term planning and collective effort among the various stakeholders that interact with natural resources as consumers, managers, caretakers and policy makers. 32 Gram Panchayats in the Sri Satya Sai district & Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh have undertaken collective efforts to restore the water Commons in their region and for their own and cattle’s well being.
