This Bengali Dalit Woman has turned 105! When I met her in Malkangiri (Odisha) , she could distinctly remember those days when the Second World War began, when India was partitioned, and when they became refugees! One forgets happy moments but remembers the trauma. . .

I recently read an article in The Guardian about Indian women who were forced into slavery in Oman. The article was accompanied by a series of powerful images that showed the physical and emotional scars that these women had suffered. I was shaken by the stories of these women. They were beaten, raped, and denied food and water. They were treated like property, not human beings. We need to do more to end modern-day slavery. We need to raise awareness of the issue and demand action from our governments and businesses. We need to support organizations that are working to rescue and rehabilitate victims of slavery. #endmodernslavery #Slaveryfreeworld https://lnkd.in/d9yuMFEP

All daughters are princesses regardless of their colours, creeds or nationalities. The children of Gaza are the biggest casuality of the Israeli apartheid and genocide. The hatred and bigotry spread by mainstream media has blindfolded Israeli supporters from recognising this simple and clear fact staring them in their eyes. Don't you have your own children? How are they different from the ones suffering in Gaza? Do they bleeed a different colour blood? Do their tears differ from the tears of the children in Gaza? Is their pain different from the pain experienced by Gazan children? The leaders of the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, France and so on. Have you no shame that despite the self claim of a civilised people, educational, technological and financial supermacy, you all have all ganged up on the innocent civilians of a tiny population and are justifying the casualties? Have you no shame that Israel is killing and starving them like a fish in a barrel without mercy or humanity and you turn a blind eye? Have you no shame that your own citizens are protesting in hundred of thousands against this tyranny and you do not pay attention to them? If you answer in negative to the above then abandon your claims of humanity or civilisation. You are educated barbarians and decorated oppressors. You will not last long as leaders and will be remembered as tyrants and oppressors by your own children and the history shall record accordingly.

We see you, hear you and believe you. We remember the lives of the innocent children who were abused, assaulted, neglected and murdered at residential schools. We listen to and believe the survivors and we recognize the assault on our indigenous sisters and brothers, the indigenous culture, and the inter-generational trauma caused. Our federal and provincial levels of government are not stepping up to what was promised; not only the large scale but also in implementing smaller yet valuable actions, like bus services to rural areas to make life safer for our indigenous sisters and children. We must make them accountable at every level of government and be aware of what is not being followed through on. As a community of Canadians, we must make efforts to empower each of our citizens, and neighbours, with understanding, love and compassion. In this way, we can create a society where everyone is valued and honored. That begins with each of us. So please, put more love in your heart, and more awareness in your life. Now share it. On today, let us be thankful for the fact that we are alive and well. Let us be grateful that we’ve existed long enough to make our world a better place. Let us recognize that all over the world, people live in situations without basic safety. And today is a “holiday” that celebrates the destruction of safety for an indigenous group of people, for profit, for land. Just like many of us have watched the safety destroyed in Palestinian region. For profit. For land. If you are perpetually “safe” then it is not enough to send thoughts and prayers to those in danger. You must recognize that your own safety depends on the safety of others. We’ve taken violence and suffering as / for granted. As things that just always happen. Without recognizing that our own actions, beliefs, behaviors shape the possibilities of the future that is constantly in-creation—and whether that future is safe / or perpetually violent. There are no guarantees. No prophesies that manifest without our participation. So if we want more safety, less war, less violence, less suffering, more glee, then we have to create it for others as much as we create it for ourselves. The blood of the Palestinian children, Congolese children, Sudanese children is on ALL of our hands. Let us wash them clean. Much love #happythanksgiving #indigenouspeoples #futurism
