Amniotic fluid in pregnancy

Amniotic fluid is the fluid in which the fetus is floating inside the amniotic sac. Among its main functions, amniotic fluid offers protection to the fetus and allows it to move freely.

One of the alterations that can occur during pregnancy is a decrease in amniotic fluid, known as oligohydramnios. For this reason, it is necessary to measure the amount of amniotic fluid in control ultrasounds, by calculating the amniotic fluid index (ALI).
