Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan is widely loved by all. It was inspired from the Indian epic, Ramayan, written by Valmiki. On Wednesday Wishlist, we list out actors who we think could make a dream cast for Ramayan.

When Covid-19 lockdown forced people to stay inside their houses, they faced a lot of issues. From mental health problems to feeling suffocated within the four walls of their own house, it became hard for people to go about their daily life. With actors not being able to continue shooting, audiences were left with nothing to watch at home as shooting was delayed indefinitely. It was during this time that the re-run of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan started yet again and ended up becoming a huge success.
The mythological show, along with other old shows from the late 1980s and 1990s, helped DD climb the viewership ladder and reach the top. Between April 4 and April 10, the channel garnered over 19 lakh impressions to grab the top spot, a feat that could not be imagined under normal circumstances.
If the epic, Ramayan, was to be ever adapted by the South cinema industry (even the thought is enough to give us an adrenaline rush), we think the following actors/actresses would form the dream cast.
RAM CHARAN AS LORD RAM
In RRR, when Ram Charan appeared on the screen as Alluri Sitarama Raju, he looked extremely convincing when he was projected as Ram. If this version of Ramayan was to be made, we would love to see Ram Charan in the role of Lord Ram.
KEERTHY SURESH AS MA SITA
Keerthy Suresh is one of our favourites! If this film ever comes to fruition, she will certainly do justice to the character of Maa Sita. Her simplicity and sweetness makes her the perfect fit for the role. Plus, the acting chops!
VARUN TEJ AS LAKSHMAN
When Fidaa was released in 2017, Varun Tej established himself as a successful actor and has been widely loved ever since. He would be the perfect person for the role because in Fidaa we saw him playing the role of dutiful and responsible younger brother.
VIJAY SETHUPATHI AS RAAVAN
Sethupathi's brooding eyes and larger-than-life persona make him the perfect actor to play Raavan. By starring in films like ‘Vikram Vedha’, ‘Master’ and ‘Viduthalai’, he has proved his versatility. With his brilliant acting prowess, he can give Ravan’s character a whole new meaning.
KARTHI AS LORD HANUMAN
Karthi is well-known for playing diverse roles. He can go from being an intense guy to an innocent person in just a few seconds - the very traits of Lord Hanuman. If this film ever gets made, we would love to see the ‘Ponniyin Solvin’ star as Hanuman.
The cherry on top would be if SS Rajamouli comes onboard as the director. The filmmaker has openly confessed that he takes inspiration from Mahabharat and Ramayan for his films.
Ramayan was adapted by director Om Raut for his ambitious film, Adipurush, which starred Prabhas as Lord Ram. However, the film was slammed for its authenticity and poor visual effects. So, if another version of Ramayan is being planned in the South, then we are excited.
