Bigg Boss OTT 2 Review: Salman Khan's show begins with gossips, eviction and dramatic contestants

Bigg Boss OTT 2 finally began on June 17 amid much fanfare. While Bigg Boss is a much-awaited show every season, the OTT season was first hosted by Karan Johar in 2021. While the makers decided to give 2022 a miss, the show is back again with the who’s who across fields from all over the world. But what does the show look like? Let’s find out.

This time, the Bigg Boss OTT team has worked hard on the contestants’ list. This comes as a respite because a section of the Internet was of the belief that BB was falling back on its participants. It’s a mix of bests this time. You have Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s former wife Aaliya Siddiqui, Sheezan Khan’s sister Falaq Naazz, YouTuber Abhishek Malhan, TV actress Akanksha Puri, TV actor Avinash Sachdev, actress and Avinash's ex, Palak Purswani, TV star Jiya Shankar, social media star Puneet Superstar, host-VJ Cyrus Broacha, actress-doctor Bebika Dhurve, dancer-actress from Bihar Manisha Rani, Lebanese model-actor Jad Hadid and filmmaker-actress Pooja Bhatt! Quite an impressive contestant list, indeed!

Salman Khan delved into OTT for the first time as the show’s host. While interacting with the media, the superstar had shared that he would ensure ‘sabhyata’ on the show. However, he seemed to have cut the contestants some slack on their first day. The actor played the perfect host as he introduced the contestants one by one and ushered them inside the house. What looks like it, The Weekend Ka Vaar is going to be filled with thrills, like the previous Bigg Boss seasons.

Drama has set inside the Bigg Boss OTT 2 house, from the word ‘go’! Hushed whispers began right in the first hour after all the contestants met. Jad Hadid, a Lebanese model-actor, has become the talk of the town for his good looks and all the female attention he has been getting. Jiya Shankar and Jad were seen casually flirting with each other and this left fans wondering what was brewing between the two. However, Manisha Rani was one of the first ones to show interest and openly said that she would continue flirting with him. She even grew a little insecure when Akanksha Puri entered the house. It’s now left to see which love story unfolds.

Puneet Superstar, who is known for his eccentric way of talking and smearing his face with anything, starting from muck to chilly powder, was first seen using his usual language as he spoke to the camera. Later, he lathered his face up with toothpaste. This made Bigg Boss intervene and schooled him on his misconduct. If he changed his means, he would have been a rather entertaining watch, however, he has been evicted from the show collectively by the contestants since wo aadaton se baaz nahi aaya. That too, in less than 24 hours!

Pooja Bhatt, who was on the panellist seat last night, was the surprise contestant on the show. She was the 13th entry and has already created her set of admirers, both inside and outside the house. The actress entered the show with the highest amount of BB currency (1,50,000) and it’ll be left to see how she uses it. It will also be interesting to note her conduct in the house and what role she plays in strategy-making.

Another unique and interesting concept of Bigg Boss OTT 2 is the currency concept. Contestants first had to pay money to buy their beds. Now, they will need money for basic necessities like rations, going to the washroom and running the smallest errands in the house. And they’ll have to work to earn their BB currencies. So we can expect a lot of interesting yet daunting tasks in the pipeline.

All in all, BB OTT 2 started on a promising note. But will it be able to match up with previous BB seasons? Only time will tell.
