Monaco's Charlotte Casiraghi paid tribute to her late grandmother Grace Kelly on her wedding day by wearing one of her favourite pieces of jewellery.

Charlotte (32), the daughter of Caroline, Princess of Hanover, one of Kelly's three children with husband Prince Rainier, wed in her own unique style on Saturday - and like most royal brides, there was an outfit change for the evening celebrations. For the ceremony itself at the Prince's Palace, Charlotte wed fiancé Dimirti Rassam in a custom designed Saint Laurent mini-dress, a silver brocade lace design with multiple bow details and opted for more traditional attire for their reception.

It was remarkably similar to the champagne lace dress her grandmother wore for her civil ceremony, designed by legendary MGM costume designer Helen Ros. The service was attended by her entire family, including Prince Albert, Princess Charlene and their children, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques.

Later in the night, the bride changed into a strapless white Chanel dress (while her husband channeled old school French Riviera in a white tuxedo and slicked back hair), but it was her choice of necklace that sent royal watchers into a frenzy.

The triple layered brilliant-and-baguette-cut diamond necklace was gifted to Grace Kelly, the Hollywood actress turned princess, on her wedding day in 1956 and remains, like all historical jewels, in the family's extensive vault.

And Charlotte's choice was a fitting tribute to her family's royal links, despite being relatively low in succession to the Monegasque throne.

The newylweds, who are parents to six-month-old son Balthazar, released a handful of images on social media, including one in which they are gazing lovingly at one another before they danced the night away with 300 guests at private residence Villa La Vigie, which overlooks the Bay of Monaco.

It is Charlotte's first marriage and Dimitri's second. She has five-year-old son Raphael from a precious relationship and he has a seven-year-old daughter from his first marriage.

They're expected to throw one final bash, without as much media interest, for friends and family in the south of France.
