In 1981 after the success of Dostana and Naseeb, producer Yash Johar had launched John Jani Janardhan (Ringo) with a lot fanfare with Manmohan Desai as the director. Starring Amitabh Bachchan,Mithun Chakraborthy (Replaced Randhir Kapoor), Kamal Hassan (Replaced Rishi Kapoor). The film's title was from the song of Manmohan Desai's Naseeb's song, but this film was shelved without any reason. Then in the year 1984, director T.Rama Rao made a film with Rajnikant and he used the same tittle.

The film "Allah Rakha" was first originally planned in 1981. Manmohan Desai signed Rajesh Khanna( For Biswajeet's role),Hema Malini (for Waheeda Rehman's role),Kamal Hassan( For Jackie Shroff's role),Salma Agha( For Meenakshi Sheshadri's role),Padmini Kholapure( For Dimple Kapadia's role), Anita Raaj (For Aruna Irani's role),Jackie Shroff( For Gulshan Grover's role), Mazhar Khan ( For Shammi Kapoor's role) . Ketan Desai was to make his directorial debut.

Subhash Ghai wanted Kamal Haasan in Hero. The film was titled Sangeet at that point. Kamal declined as he did not have the required dates.

Kamal Haasan signed the film Joshilaay in 1983. He later opted out and was replaced by Anil Kapoor.

Kamal Hassan wanted to produce a Hindi film with Jaya Pradha in 1983, directed by K.Vishwanathan. He approached Naseeruddin Shah for a role and told him it was a small art film and he wanted him to work for free. This angered Naseer and he told Kamal to leave. Naseer's argument was that if it was small art film why was he casting himself and Jaya Pradha in the film. Feeling taken granted for,Naseer turned down the film. It would be 18 years later when they would work together in Hey Ram.

Feroz Khan first offered Janbaaz to Kamal Hassan. Kamal had suffered a leg injury and was unable to do the film. Anil Kapoor ended up getting signed for the role.

Wanted to remake and star in Tevar Magan's Hindi version. He requested Dilip Kumar to play his father. When Dilp was unable to, Kamal lost all interest and sold the films story to Mushir and Riaz . The film ended up as Virasat.

In 1988, there was talk of B.K.Adarsh signing Rajkumar Santoshi to direct a film to star Naseeruddin Shah, Kamal Haasan and Sunny Deol. Nothing more came after the announcement.

Rajkumar Santoshi wrote Ghayal and Ghatak for Kamal Hassan. Due to no producer's willing to back the film , he changed the star cast.

In 2006, T. Rajeevnath planned a biopic of Mother Teresa and reportedly considered socialite Paris Hilton for the lead role. He also suggested that his industry friends such as Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan along with Mithun Chaakraborty would play roles in the project. The news created a furore prompting him to clarify that Hilton won't be playing Mother Teresa. However, the film was never made.
