What are the New Rules for IPL 2024?
A new rule was introduced for IPL 2023, the 16th edition of the league, by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is not the first time that these rules are being introduced. They already exist in international cricket; however, this is the first time they are being introduced to the Indian Premier League, which started in 2008.

What are the new IPL 2024 rules?
Smart Replay System (SRS) in IPL
IPL 2024 will have a new Smart Replay System (SRS) to increase the accuracy and speed of decision-making during the matches. Under this, the TV umpire will receive inputs and images captured directly from the Hawk-Eye's hi-speed cameras across the ground. The TV broadcast director will no longer be involved between the two under the new system. This will help the 3rd umpire to see more visuals and reach the decisions in a lesser amount of time.
Two bouncers allowed per over
Bowlers are now allowed to bowl two bouncers per over in the 2024 season of the IPL. BCCI tested the rule during the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Impact players in IPL
According to the impact players, after the toss, each team is allowed to name up to five substitute players. An Impact Player can replace a member of the playing XI at any time during the game.

Playing 11s announced after the toss
Captains will now be allowed to name their playing 11, plus four substitute fielders, after the toss instead of handing over team sheets before the coin toss. That means a captain can carry two team sheets and hand over the one depending upon his team batting or bowling first. This rule was experimented with during the 2022-23 SA20.
DRS to review wides and no-balls
In addition to reviewing the umpire's decision for out or not out, players can now use DRS to review the wides or no-balls given by the on-field umpires. This rule was implemented during the WPL 2023 with modest success and will now be introduced in the IPL 2023 for the first time. It will be interesting to see how the captains used this in a tense and close match.
Penalty for Slow Over Rate
Teams have to start bowling the 20th over of the innings before the stipulated time limit of 90 minutes ends. If a team is behind the over rate, the bowling team will be allowed to have only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle for every over not completed within the allocated time. For example, if a team bowled only 18 overs before the end of 90 mins, they will bowl the next 2 overs with only 4 fielders outside the 30-yard cricket instead of the usual 5.
Unfair Movements by Wicketkeeper/Fielders
If the on-fielders spots an unfair movement of the wicketkeeper or any fielder before the delivery is bowled, there will be a penalty of 5 runs on the fielding side. Also, the delivery will be declared a dead ball.
