OMFG: A Gold Sculpture Of Kate Moss Sells For A Cool Mil

She may be known for her waifishness, but it turns out Kate Moss is worth more than her weight in solid gold. The proof?

She may be known for her waifishness, but it turns out Kate Moss is worth more than her weight in solid gold. The proof?

This 18-karat gold sculpture, created by artist Marc Quinn (who already immortalized the supermodel in bronze a few years back), just sold at auction at Sotheby's for a whopping $908,068. It's called "Microcosmos (Siren)," because, according to the sculptor, "in a sense it represents everything that lures people to wreck themselves on the rocks: money, perfection, unattainable images - all these things," and he goes on to call Moss a "modern day Aphrodite." She posed for him to make sure the face was correct, as well as the proportions of the body, hands, and feet, but it was an experienced yoga instructor who contorted herself into the Dwipada Sirsasana position.

Business Insider reports that it's the largest gold statue created since ancient Egypt, which is kind of baffling. As for who shelled out all that cash, it's said to be "an anonymous Asian telephone bidder." Check out this video of the sculpture's installation at the British Museum to find out more:

Pretty wild, huh? Can you gals believe how much this thing fetched? Discuss!
