Salman's Khan's Kick poster: What it does (not) reveal

The trailer for Salman Khan’s superhero film ‘Kick’ will be released, or rather ‘unmasked’, as the film poster says, on 15 June.

The film released its first sneak peek poster on Monday. However, there is really not much to sneak or peek at in the poster, which a mask that could be straight from your last Halloween party’s spoils.

The mask, in itself, does not speak well about the originality of the movie. Not only does it look like a bat-mask from a pre-preschooler’s birthday party, it has uncanny similarity to the mask of ‘Krrish’ - the only visibly superhero-ey thing about Hrithik Roshan’s character.

For a superhero, the costume is one of the most important aspects. If the first reaction after looking at the poster of ‘Kick’ has been to notice how similar it is to another superhero, the superhero might have to actually reconsider how super he is!

The biggest questions, however, are: Who or what is ‘Kick’? Is it the character’s name? Is it a superpower? Is it a cheesy description of adrenaline rush? Is it a not-so-subtle promotional for a new Being Kick(er) tee Salman Khan is coming up with to boost the sales of his Being Human brand?  Football, kick, get it?

Moreover, the poster does not give any hint about the superhero powers which Salman’s character will possess in the movie. So what are the red specks of fire floating around the mask? No one knows. Though, the lore goes, that’s exactly what Salman Khan’s headlights look like to black bucks in national parks!

Something else which makes the film interesting is the fact that novelist Chetan Bhagat has co-written the film’s script. It would not be surprising, then, if IIT-dropout Salman gets a call from God asking him to ‘kick’ all the bad guys around in the film.
