The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is in the process of developing the Tughlakabad Metro station with multi-mode facilities and as an imperative interchange facility between the upcoming Silver Line and the Violet Line, media reports mentioned DMRC officials as saying.
The 23.62km priority corridor between Aerocity and Tughlakabad is part of the Delhi Metro’s phase 4 expansion, which will have 15 stations including four elevated and eleven underground.
Further, the Silver Line has four interchange stations at Aerocity (with the Airport Express Line) Chattarpur (Yellow Line), Saket G-Block (upcoming Brown Line), and Tughlakabad (Violet Line).
“The new station has been designed as a four-level underground structure, where the platform will be at the lowest level, at an approximate depth of 23m, followed by the concourse above it and then an entire floor for parking above it, with the roof level of the station coming at the ground level,” Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications at DMRC, Anuj Dayal told media.
While several Metro stations have a parking facility, only the Dhansa Bus Stand station on the Grey Line (Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand) has an underground parking facility, with a capacity for around 110 vehicles. DMRC officials said while adding that the Tughlakabad station’s parking space will be built at a depth of 23m.
DMRC also plans to construct a short subway that will connect the Silver Line platforms of the Tughlakabad station with the building housing the elevated Violet Line platforms, Dayal added.
“While the existing Tughlakabad station on the Violet line is elevated, the new station of the Silver Line will be an underground one, and a subway will connect the two adjoining stations through the paid area. This subway will be less than 100m long and will provide quick transit facilities to passengers from one line to the other,” Dayal further explained.
The Silver Line is expected to be completed by March 2026, which will provide direct airport connectivity for residents of Tughlakabad, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, and Badarpur.
The other corridors of the Phase IV project include R.K Ashram to Janakpuri (West) and Mukundpur to Maujpur.
Connecting people along with convenience
With a massive network of about 392.44 Kms with 288 stations (including NOIDA-Greater NOIDA Corridor and Rapid Metro, Gurugram), the Delhi Metro has been instrumental in ushering in a new era in the sphere of mass urban transportation in India.
The modern Metro system has revolutionised the mass transportation scenario not only in the National Capital Region but the entire country.
The metro network has now crossed the boundaries of Delhi to reach NOIDA and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh in Haryana.
With the opening of the Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar and Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden Sections, the metro has introduced new-age trains equipped with the Unattended Train Operation (UTO) technology. These trains operate with the Communication Based Train Control(CBTC) signaling technology which facilitates the movement of trains in very short frequencies.
The network of metro also includes the NOIDA – Greater NOIDA Aqua Line. In addition, the 12.85 kilometers long Rapid Metro also connects with the Delhi Metro network at Sikanderpur station of Yellow Line. The Rapid Metro provides connectivity within the satellite city of Gurugram.
The DMRC opened its first corridor between Shahdara and Tis Hazari on December 25, 2002. Subsequently, the first phase of construction worth 65 kilometers of Metro lines was finished two years and nine months ahead of schedule in 2005.
