During the 1960s and 1970s, Lambretta was a very popular scooter brand in India. However, with the inception of modern and homegrown scooters and other various factors led to the Italian brand shutting shop in India. Nevertheless, Lambretta remained a strong player in the two-wheeler space in European markets.
With the tide shifting towards electric mobility, Lambretta has also jumped into the ship and introduced its first battery powered model. At the ongoing EICMA 2023, Lambretta has garnered attention by displaying its first prototype electric scooter. Named Elettra, the prototype is a modern interpretation of the classic Lambretta scooter.
Lambretta Eletrra Styling
Still at a concept at this stage, the company has promised to take this to the production stage. Lambretta has managed to retain its signature design elements sharp and decisive lines at the front borrowed from yesteryear models including Lambretta 1 and its successor the Li-150 series 2. At the same time, Lambretta has incorporated modern touches like the hexagonal LED headlamp that makes it unmistakably a 21st century scooter.
Other visual highlights include a handlebar hiding the wooden ‘retractable’ brake levers as is the ‘hooked’ headlamp, and a digital instrumentation. The entire rear body can be automatically lifted for maintenance purposes at the touch of a remote button, giving access to the compartment that houses the battery. The body itself includes a helmet compartment.
