In a world plagued with remakes and spin-offs, we shouldn't really be surprised that this iconic '90s classic is getting the reboot treatment, and yet here we are.

Because whether we like it or not, it looks like Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura series is coming back to our screens – big or small.

According to Deadline, the production company behind the franchise are keen to expand a number of their series across television, features and digital – Ace Ventura included.

Following the successful(ish) reboot of The Exorcist for FX, Morgan Creek bosses have announced that they're hopeful for a "maintsream theatrical production relaunch".

(Un)fortunately, if Ace Ventura does return, it won't be a straight remake. Morgan Creek boss David Robinson has confirmed that any follow-up will will honour the original series – whether it comes in the form of a movie or a TV show.

"Because it's episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise," he explained.

There's even talks for Jim Carrey to return along with it, although Robinson has added that the concept behind the reboot is more of "a baton-handing" situation.

Carrey on board or not, the legendary actor will be returning to TV in the near future with a brand new 10-part dramedy called Kidding. No, we're not kidding.

Promising a little darkness, Kidding follows Carrey as Jeff, a hugely successful children's TV star whose fame and family life slowly begin to unravel.
