Origin: Chihuahuan desert in the southwestern USA, northern Mexico

Growth Habits: Evergreen rounded shrub to 3-4 feet tall (0.9 to 1.2 m), 5 feet spread (1.5 m)

Watering Needs: Little water when established. Needs good drainage and alkaline soil.

Propagation: Easy by cuttings. Softwood in late summer, hardwood in winter.

The species was named after Ida Kaplan Langman, a 20th century American botanist.
There are many cultivars:

  • 'Lynn's Legacy' is a a denser form, mostly everblooming.
  • 'Rio Bravo' is a larger form that blooms in cycles.

Blooming Habits:
The Leucophyllum langmaniae has lavender flowers in a long season, in spring and summer. It blooms on new wood.
