More than 11 injured as Telangana and Bihari students clash in Hyderabad

The students are undergoing treatment at a private Hospital in Hayathnagar

Hyderabad: Four students were severely injured and 11 others suffered minor injuries when a fight broke out between North Indians and locals at Narayana Diploma College in Hayathnagar.

The students, who belonged to Telangana state and Bihar, entered into a fight that started from a small argument at the college canteen a few days ago. Nearly 20 persons, not from the institution, allegedly entered the college premises and roughed up students from Telangana.

The students are undergoing treatment at a private Hospital in Hayathnagar.

A few days ago, five students from Bihar had got admission in First Year for Mechanical Diploma. They were told by their seniors from Bihar that Biharis got more marks in internal tests as the principal of the college was from Bihar.

The freshers came back to the classroom and started mocking local students saying that they would get more marks than them. This led to an argument between the groups at the college canteen.

Two days ago, the group again mocked the local students. The students approached college director Bhagavanth Reddy and complained about the issue.

When they did not get a proper response from the management, they entered into an argument with their Bihar counterparts.

When the argument became serious, the students from Bihar called their friends from outside the college, living in rented houses nearby. They entered the college and attacked the local students.

“They came with sticks. They entered the Second Year Mechanical branch classroom and attacked the local students,” said Hayathnagar inspector P. Srinivasulu.

“Seniors told them that the students from Bihar could get more marks. They mocked us saying that they would get more marks as the principal was also from Bihar. We took this to the notice of the director also, but there was no response,” said one of the local students who was injured during the fight on Thursday.

However, the management denied allegations that students from Bihar secured more marks in internal tests.

“There is no such discrimination in the college. They had an argument over some issue and it lead to the fight,” said the college principal Dr Bhagwan Sriram.

Police registered a case against 12 students including Tanveer Alam, Dharmendra, Anil and Maseed. The injured students are undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Hayathnagar and their condition is said to be stable.
