A most attractive and easily grown native wild flower with toothed pinnate leaves, somewhat grey-downy beneath, and bearing in summer spikes of numerous yellow, honey-scented flowers, each ¼in. or so across (they were once added to mead). Apart from this, the whole plant is scented including the rootstock which can be dried and used in pot-pourri retaining its fragrance well.
