Tata Motors crosses 5 lakh production milestone at Sanand facility

- New Tata Tigor rolled out as the 5,00,000th unit

- Achieved 100 per cent plant production capacity in August 

- Contributes to 60 per cent of Tata’s total manufacturing of passenger vehicles

Tata Motors has added a new feather to its cap by surpassing the five lakh passenger vehicle production milestone at the Sanand facility in Gujarat. Back in August this year, the company had achieved 100 per cent plant capacity with the production of popular selling models like the Tiago and the Tigor. The updated Tigor which was recently introduced has emerged as the 5,00,000th vehicle to be rolled out. The plant currently contributes to 60 per cent of Tata’s total manufacturing of passenger vehicles. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mayank Pareek, President, passenger vehicle business unit, Tata Motors said, “We, at Tata Motors, have been working aggressively towards our core strategy of Turnaround 2.0, aiming to ‘Win sustainably in PVs’. A lean manufacturing process plays a key role in our growth strategy enabling the Sanand plant to contribute around 60 per cent of the overall PV production. We are extremely proud of achieving this milestone within our planned timeline. This is the result of the hard work put in by our dedicated workforce. The plant has evolved to become a modern, state-of-the-art facility and is playing a pivotal role in meeting the aspirations of Tiago and Tigor customers.”  

The Sanand facility, spread across 1100 acres of land, was initially commissioned for the Nano project. From a single-model plant in 2010, the plant has emerged as one of the most technologically advanced plants in the country with the multi-model production facility. Currently, the facility manufactures 21 variants of the cars with 150 vehicle combinations. The facility also produces Tata Tigor electric vehicle for commercial applications which is exclusively being supplied to the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
