Here are 8 key insights into the majestic temple complex set to become a symbol of cultural and religious significance in India.
Renowned architect Chandrakant Sompura, hailing from a lineage of temple architects, serves as the chief architect behind the magnificent Ram Mandir.
Sompura's family boasts an impressive portfolio, having designed over 200 religious structures across India, including the Akshardham temple complex in Gujarat, the Swaminarayan Mandir in Mumbai, and the Birla Mandir in Kolkata.
Spanning a total area of 2.7 acres, the Ram Mandir has a substantial built-up area of 57,400 square feet, embodying grandeur and architectural splendor.
The three-storied temple features an impressive array of columns, with 160 on the ground floor, 132 on the first floor, and 74 on the second floor.
Standing at an imposing height of 161 feet, the temple stretches across 360 feet in length and 235 feet in width.
Crafted in the Nagara style, the temple is characterized by towering spires (shikharas), intricate carvings, and symbolic representations. Notably, no iron is used in any part of the temple's construction.
The main entrance, crafted from Rajasthani sand pink stone, is the Lion Gate or 'Singh Dwar.' In total, the temple boasts 12 gates, each contributing to the overall architectural opulence.
The grandeur of the Ram Mandir complex comes at an estimated cost of around Rs 1,800 crore.
Inside the expansive complex, plans include temples dedicated to Maharishi Valmiki, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, and Agastya.
While the final construction of the Ram Mandir is slated for completion by December 2024, devotees will have the opportunity to visit the sacred site starting January 23, 2024.
