The Monsoon Session of Parliament is beginning today, July 20. The session will continue till August 11. During the session which will have a total of 17 sittings, 31 bills including personal data protection are expected to be tabled
Among the crucial bills likely to be tabled are Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, International Monetary Fund and Bank Bill, Mines and Mineral Bill, and Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill
The bill aims to protect the digital data of all citizens. Once cleared in the House, all online and offline data in India will fall under its legal domain. Under this bill, personal data can be processed only if an individual has consented to it

The Centre will also table the Delhi Amendment Bill to replace the ordinance on the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in the national capital. The AAP has secured the support of around 25 opposition parties against the bill
The government is also likely to table the Jan Vishwas Bill, 2023, which seeks to decriminalise minor offences by amending 183 provisions in 42 Acts with a view to promoting ease of business. It proposes to amend 183 provisions across 42 Acts administered by 19 ministries
The Centre is likely to table the Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill, which seeks to regulate the import, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs, medical devices and cosmetics. The bill also seeks to ensure the quality, safety, efficacy, performance and clinical trial of new drugs
The government has lined up 31 bills, including draft legislation to check film piracy, introduce age-based categories for censor certification, and a bill to set up the National Research Foundation. It has also listed a bill to amend forest conservation laws
Manipur is set to dominate the Monsoon Session as the conflict which began in May is refusing to die down. The northeastern state is witnessing ethnic violence since May 3 that has claimed over 160 lives. During an all-party meeting held on Wednesday, the opposition demanded a discussion on Manipur in Parliament
After the all-party meeting, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said issues such as floods in various parts of the country, the railway tragedy in Odisha's Balasore, and price rise should be discussed in Parliament
