Kick Hindi Movie Reviews

Ratings:2.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site:CNN IBN

To be fair, despite its problems, Kick is an improvement on most films the actor has starred in recently. It’s neither as tacky as Jai Ho, nor as plain lazy as Ready and Bodyguard. Kick will no doubt break box-office records and earn many many crores for its makers and for its leading man, but it’s a shame he must settle for just this. I’m going with a generous two-and-a-half out of five for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick. I didn’t hate it. If that’s enough encouragement, sure, go watch it. But you were going to anyway, right?

KICK has the magnificence [in terms of production values] that was lacking in Salman’s previous movies.Post DABANGG, those who felt that the actor’s movies lacked a cohesive script to match his superstardom, are sure to feel satiated with KICK, since the film has it all and does utmost justice to Salman’s aura. On the whole, KICK is a paisa vasool, seeti-maar entertainer. Get ready for a Tsunami called KICK at the ticket window. It is sure to rewrite box-office records. Salman fans, rejoice. KICK is a sure-shot B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R. To quote a dialogue from the film: ‘Woh apni Eidi lene zaroor aayega’.

The first thing you should know about Kick is that it is an outrageously silly film. It lurches from a thwarted love story to infantile comedy to slick action to shamelessly manipulative melodrama without any attempt at coherence or consistency. But even if youre willing to ignore the logic-free story and buy heavily into the cult of Bhai, Kick is bumpy, and far too convoluted to deliver the joyride of a Dabangg. What does work are the thrilling action sequences; Rajat Aroraas crackling dialogue; and, above all, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the wicked Shiv Gajra.

On the whole, Kick is a blockbuster of epic proportions! It entertains audiences of all kinds and classes. It is the kind of film which €“ to borrow from a dialogue mouthed by Salman Khan in the film €“ dil mein aati hai aur samajh mein bhi aati hai! With tremendous repeat value too, this one will shake the box-office, set cash registers ringing and ultimately emerge as one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema. It could easily turn out to be the highest grosser of Salmans career so far!

Straight on, Kick is Bollywood biryani, a masala movie spiced with the superstardom of Salman Khan, garnished by charming Jacqueline, smouldered over the wry talent of Randeep Hooda. Kick is not for lovers of fine filmi foie gras, but for those who want a hearty Eid banquet to enjoy. Just enjoy this cheese-Kick.

Kick is Salman’s best film in a decade. The film is predictable, the script is lazily convenient, and yet there’s a surefootedness in the way Nadiadwala jauntily carries on increasing the tempo, piling on the Khan. Kick, therefore, is the Dhoom 2 of the Salmaniverse. It looks good, moves fast, shows off its superstar. In the world of harebrained Bhai films — Dabanng included — Kick is the best made and the most fun. If you’re a fan, you just hit the jackpot.

To give the Devil his due, Kick isnt half as bad as some of the Bollywood flicks that moviegoers have been subjected to in recent months. Take it or lump it. Kick delivers enough harmless lowbrow entertainment not to be dismissed as a complete waste of time for its target audience: diehard fan of Salman Khan. One expects the extraordinary from Kick only when Nawazuddin is on the screen. It is unfortunate for both the film and the audience that he isnt on the screen often enough or long enough. Kick provides a kick only sporadically. For Salman Khan fans, that should be good enough.

After a snoozy first half, Kick stirs from slumber to unleash the spectacle it teased with in its promo. Kick is most enjoyable in its last 25-30 minutes. And mostly because of an antagonist who delivers the hammiest performance of his career with a creepy relish that outlines the appeal of Prem Chopra, Amrish Purish and Ranjeet. As for its devilish hero, Kick is undecided about whether it wants to add anti on his resume. Sorry Salman, but I am unsubscribing.

Thats what a viewing of Kick comes down to. I found it more or less jhelable when Salman is not taking himself seriously, blowing a cherry at us. When the film starts getting him close to his noble Being Human image, it becomes a yawn. Salman kickin it is fine, but tearin up? Nahiiiiiin. The plot, as befits a Salman Khan spectacle, is completely and delightfully cuckoo.

. Once you look past the minor hiccups, he delivers a knockout punch. The scale and grandeur of the film is on par with the Dhoom series. The action scenes are brilliantly choreographed. The soul of Kick is Salman Khan – it’s like a one man show. He towers above everything else with his persona, style and attitude.Kick is non-stop entertainment and Salman Khan at his best. Don’t miss it.

Kick has a lot of twists and is entertaining in parts. It’s not a typical Salman film with no plot! Here there is quite a bit happening, which will keep you engaged. This is Sajid Nadiadwala’s first film as a director and he doesn’t disappoint. The production quality of the film is of top class and the action scenes on the streets of Poland are of international standards. For Salman Khan fans, it’s a great show but for others it’s going to be an average affair.

Kick is an official amalgamation of Dhoom and a bunch of trademark Salman films. To its credit, the film quite achieves what it sets out for: massy trappings. Salman in very few roles genuinely seems to enjoy himself and Kick is one of the sparing few. If you dont mind paying for massive canvas, high voltage action, chemistry with a tinge of electricity and songs that will get you ecstatic €“ this is your shot at getting a solid high! Whistle baja time coz this is a Bollywood fillum.

A quintessentially Salman-esque film, Kick is every bit the masala entertainer that the Bhai-worshipping audience was craving for after Jai Ho. Seen purely in the context of its genre, Kick is an entertainer worth a couple of hours of your time on the weekend; more so if you seriously take to his dialogue ‘dil main ata hoon, samajh main nahi’. The film is endearing in bits, but rational? We’ll let you decide.

Kick comprises all the histrionics that come with a Salman Khan film €” action, comedy, romance and melodrama. You dont have to be a scriptwriter to know what happens next. You just need to leave your brains home and enjoy the story, if it can be called that. As the film ends with Singh saying, €œdont try understanding me, just love me€, please dont try to understand a Salman Khan film. Simply, love it.

Kick is a vintage Salman-Khan movie, one that unapologetically glorifies his every move, muscle and mannerism. Whether its being masked and taking on the €œdevil€, or being smitten by an absolutely gorgeous Jacqueline Fernandez, hes just €œbeing Salman€. Hes a man who will live in your heart, but one who cant be comprehended, we are told, an essence thats lost in translation but one that cleverly sums up the incoherent mess of a movie Kick turns into. This ones reserved exclusively for Salman loyalists, who can whistle and applaud their heros antics but leaves nothing much for his non-fans. Its unlike his amazingly clever Dabangg that had surprisingly won over both sides.
