Giloy is known by many names, scientifically known as Tinospora Cordifolia or Guduchi in Hindi. It has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of diseases. Giloy has been referred to as ‘Amruta,’ or the nectar of immortality.

A few other directions of use can be

  • Giloy Juice – 2-3 teaspoons of juice, once or twice a day.
    Take 2-3 teaspoons of Giloy juice. Add the same quantity of water.  Drink it preferably before meals once or twice a day to boost your immunity
  • Giloy Churna – ¼-½ teaspoon twice a day.
    Take ½ teaspoon of Giloy churna. Mix it with honey or drink it with lukewarm water.
    Take it preferably after meals twice a day.
  • Giloy Powder – Take 1-2 teaspoons of Giloy powder. Add to 2 cups of water and boil it till the volume reduces to 1/2 cup. Drink it twice a day, preferably before or after lunch and dinner.
  • Giloy Tablet – 1-2 tablets twice a day. Take 1-2 Giloy Ghan vati. Swallow it with water after taking food twice a day.
  • Giloy Capsule – 1-2 capsules twice a day. Take 1-2 Giloy capsules. Swallow it with water after taking food twice a day.
  • Giloy Extract – 1 pinch twice a day.

Side effects, be cautious:

Giloy may cause low blood sugar levels if other diabetic drugs are also used. Giloy may increase immune system activity, which could exacerbate the signs and symptoms of autoimmune illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis. It is advisable to avoid Giloy if you are suffering from any such diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus. It is advisable for pregnant women to ask their physician before use. Avoid medicinal use of Giloy during breastfeeding due to the lack of scientific evidence.
