The Motorola Defy made a comeback after 10 years. The new variant of the phone is now official, and it’s called the Motorola Defy 2021. The phone has been listed on the company’s UK website, but it’s coming to other markets in Europe soon, as well as Latin America.
The Motorola Defy is making a comeback after 10 years
The last Motorola Defy smartphone that launched was the DEFY+ back in August 2011. So, it has been almost 10 years since that happened. The ‘Defy’ brand stands for Motorola’s rugged smartphones, so that’s something we can expect out of this phone as well.
This smartphone has some noticeable bezels around its display, especially above and below it. It also comes with a waterdrop display notch.
You’ll notice three cameras on its back, and one on the front. It’s kind of obvious this is a rugged smartphone. It would have considerably thinner bezels otherwise. A capacitive fingerprint scanner is placed on the back, embedded in its branding.
It includes a mid-range SoC, and expandable storage
Now, in regards to specs. The device features a 6.5-inch HD+ (1600 x 720) display protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 662 SoC, and it packs in 4GB of RAM, along with 64GB of expandable storage.
Android 10 comes pre-installed, though Android 11 is coming soon, Motorola said. A 5,000mAh battery powers this phone, and it can be recharged using 20W TurboPower charging. A Type-C port is also included, and it is waterproof.
The device is IP68 certified, and offers a mil-spec rating
Speaking of which, this phone is IP68 certified. It is sand, dust, first, water, humidity, and salt mist resistant. It is waterproof up to 1.5m for 35 minutes, and dustproof up to 1.8m.
This handset offers a mil spec 810H rating. In other words, it is resistant to vibration (category 4), resistant to humidity and salt mist (as already mentioned), and able to sustain a thermal shock. You can wash it with soap as well.
A 3.5mm headphone jack is a part of the package, along with one speaker. A 48-megapixel main camera (f/1.8 aperture) is backed by 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel depth cameras. A single 8-megapixel camera sits on the front.
The device is listed in Black and Forged Green color options. A programmable key sits on the side, while the phone measures 169.8 x 78.2 x 10.9mm, so it isn’t exactly small. It weighs 232 grams. The Motorola Defy 2021 is priced at €329/£279.
