Mamata Banerjee, with her unique style of politics, was able to defeat the formidable three-decade-old Left Front Government in 2011. Exploring her struggles and achievements, Didi opens a window to the life and times of one of the most dynamic politicians of our country.

'The general elections of 2019 can see [Mamata Banerjee] play kingmaker . . . She is the only regional leader who can claim to have that kind of clout. Jayalalithaa is no more and Nitish Kumar has changed over to the NDA. The year 2018 also witnessed the demise of another pedagogue of Dravidian politics, K. Karunanidhi. With the Congress showing signs of resurgence, and regional parties agreeing to forge a Federal Front, Mamata is more than aware that if she gets her electoral mathematics right, she could play a decisive role in the next Lok Sabha polls-maybe even stand a chance at prime ministership.'

5.0 out of 5 stars A not-so-complex read that informs and doesn’t preach

I have always been curious about Mamta Banerjee as a fellow Bong. But that curiosity has always been tempered with an apolitical bend of mind. I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book, as there were facts presented in a lucid and factual manner and the decision was left to the reader to form his/her own opinions. There is also an attempt to highlight her struggles and her battles which in a country like ours, highlights the gender gap that exists. This is a must read if you want to form a mental image about a politician who divides opinion in our country and one who is viewed as a beacon of strength by thousands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Currently India’s only Female CM!

Interesting to read about the political career Mamata Banerjee, the first female Chief Minister of West Bengal and currently the only female CM of India’s 36 states and Union Territories. In 2011, she defeated the old Left Front Government of West Bengal which had been in power for 3 decades, and has been the CM since. What will happen to her fortunes in the on-going elections in West Bengal?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful

I just finished reading the story of a strong and ambitious female leader by an equally strong and ambitious writer, Shutapa Paul. This book is extremely relevant in the present times and therefore is a must read. One of the great things about this book is that it does not assume that the reader is a newcomer to the Indian political milieu, so the narrative is fast and engaging. I don’t think that this book is meant to praise and raise one political party over another. But it does celebrate women in political leadership and gives the reader an insight into how a student leader became a regional champion and worked to become a formidable Minister. An excellent read and looking forward to more gems from the author.

I am not from Bengal.
Chief points in this book is about Mamta's political journey and her rise to power.
It also gives an idea about ground realities of west Bengal... Like farming, economy....
