Ugadi has its great religious significance among Hindus. This day marks the beginning of the Telugu New Year. Ugadi is celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in Andhra Pardesh, Telangana and Karnataka. This day also marks the arrival of spring season. This is the time for new year, new beginning, fresh start of everything. People feel happy and welcome new year with immense devotion. On this auspicious day, people visit various temples and offer prayers to God. They celebrate this with family members, prepare different types of dishes and sweets and distribute among family members, relatives and friends.
Ugadi 2024: Rituals
1. People wake up early in he morning and take a bath.
2. There is a ritual of applying oil before taking bath.
3. They wear new clean clothes and decorate their house with rangoli by using rice flour and they also use mango leaves in decoration.
4. Prepare dishes such as pachadi which is made by tamarind, jaggery and neem leaves.
5. Then they visit temples to offer dishes to the Lord and Goddess.
6. They disctribute the bhog prasad among family members.
7. On this auspicious day, they exchange gifts to each other and happily celebrate this day.
