Good girl roles? No way!: Madhurima Banerjee

Madhurima Banerjee talks about her Bollywood debut
Good girl roles? No way!: Madhurima Banerjee
Madhurima Banerjee, who made her filmi debut in Tollywood with Aa Okkadu in 2009, is now on a career high. Her first Hindi film Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal, directed by none other than Priyadarshan, is releasing this month end. Crossing her fingers, the actress says, This is a very big opportunity for me. The trailer has already created a buzz and I have been receiving calls from other Bollywood filmmakers. But Madhurima seems to be in no hurry as she wants to wait for her film to release before moving on to new ventures.
Talking about her first interaction with Priyadarshan, Madhurima says, He called me for an audition, but gave me the green signal only after three days. He is so serious on the sets that I cant help wondering how he makes all those hilarious films.
So, is her debut Hindi film also a part of the famous Malamaal Weekly series? This film is not a sequel to Malamaal Weekly. I play a rich girl in the film and the comedy in this film is more situational, unlike the slapstick comedy in the series, she says.
Recounting her time on the sets, Madhurima says that it was an amazing experience working with senior actors like Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Om Puri. They are all professional and so very spontaneous, she says and adds that she was especially scared of Nana Patekar. He used to look so serious on the sets and my first scenes were with him. He asked the people on the sets in Marathi Who is this girl?. When I replied to that question in English and introduced myself, he immediately asked me you dont know Marathi?. Thats when I told him that I was from Mumbai, says Madhurima. Nana Patekar sir is a wonderful actor and also very serious on the sets, he even jokes around with a serious face! We became good friends and he blessed me, she adds.
Down South, Madhurima is playing the female lead in Shadow opposite Venkatesh and she has also completed Mahankali with Rajasekhar. Ask her about her long absence in Tollywood and she quips, I dont know why, but I am always offered those traditional good girl roles. I am tired of essaying these cliched characters. I would like to do something different. Apart for a Telugu film, Madhurima has also completed a Malayalam film Black Coffee, in which she plays a Malayali living in Mumbai.
